Default My 87' Grand National Vs 93 Turbo Supra

I was out west on Westheimer and came up on a guy driving a pretty nice looking black Supra. I turned into a gas station and he followed me in asking about my car. He tell me is running a T70 on a fully built motor and indicated his car was running 650 RWHP and a 10 second car. Knowing Supras can be bad boys I agreed and pulled out on the street. Went from 25 and my ET Streets spun pretty good initially but actually hooked after about 50 feet and immediately pulled him out about 4 car lengths at 100. We decided to go for a highway run at 60-140 from which my car still spun initially giving him a slight advantage but was able to pull back on him easily and had him by 4-5 cars at 140.

He is a lowered car with really nice looking wheels and dark tint. He had a fast car that could probably do a high 10 with the right driver/conditions.

I doubt his numbers as thought he would pull me initially, but really did not have a lot of trouble with him. I bracket race my car and runs 10.65 very consistently with slicks. Street radials makes my car a low to mid 11 car depending on conditions.

The T70 is pretty capable. You should have asked for what he was running on (Gas and PSI).

The T70 is very nice and is what I am running on my GN. On the track I run 106 octane and boost at 25psi.

The GN's are pretty torquey & boost especially with the auto comes on alot sooner than the supras. (I am assuming the Supra was a Manual trans)

Good kill! It's very possible that he was on pump gas and that his 650 was made on race gas. Or he might just have lied

I was destroyed by a GN at a light once. I beat him until about 3rd gear when he got traction and rocketed past me sounding like a banshee!

GN's can be really badass. Still sound like blenders though.

Why does an automatic transmission make boost come on faster than a manual from a roll? suspiciou

Good question. If he had a high stall in it and the Supra was in a dead spot (doubtful) I could kinda see it. But not likely.

If you lay over a typical Supra power curve with a GN power curve you would see why a lower peak horpower car can beat them. Nothing surprising,
My 450 HP LT1 DD will take a 600 HP Supra from a dig anytime and from a roll if their not in their sweet spot.

Don't you think there is alot of difference between a 450rwhp V8 LT1 car and a V6 single turbo GN? I dunno where you are from but around here the Supras will make your vision blur from the pull they put on.

More like pull past a nitrous Busa from a roll. They don't spool up til around 6,000rpms but when they do hold the **** onto something and try not to scream like a girl. And for the lag all of them around here have 2 bottles in the hatch. However I have yet to ride or drive one on nitrous and honestly I don't want to...
