Default 99 Z28 vs Supra

EDIT: Cliff Notes - stalled Z28 is dead even with 14 lbs of boost Supra

I finally got the chance to run one of my favorite cars, and I was pleasantly surprised.

I had pulled out of my neighborhood, and about a mile down the road, my girlfriend asks, "is that a supra?"

Sure enough it is, and when I catch up to him, I goose it a bit, but he doesn't really bite. So I continue on my merry way, and I see him pull out of his lane and go to follow me around the light traffic. I make a right, he follows, and about half a car back, I see his front end lift slightly, and then I nailed it from there. I pulled the **** out of his car, and for the next 20 minutes, all I could think about was how I could have sworn he wasn't racing.

He follows us to Carls Jr. and when he sees us turn in, he just keeps going.
I would like to add Double Western Bacon Burgers are the ****.

We leave, and as we go to the light and to make a right to get on the main road, Mr. Supra is in front of us. I notice at this time, he has a very large diameter exhaust pipe, not the usual rice **** I see on most civics, and what looks like 275s out the back (possibly bigger). Also has some random gauges on his A-pillar, and a noticeable BOV.

He recognizes my car behind him, we get on the the main road. He is about 2 cars ahead of me at this point, and I give it a little gas to catch up to him, when he just nails it, and I follow suit a split second later. This race was different though, as neither of us lost or gained any ground at all, all the way up to about 115-120. He slows down, and goes "damn, that car is fast", and he mentions he was running low boost before, and this race he was running 14 lbs. From what I understand, 14lbs is a bit low for supras, and I was surprised how easily I hung with him... especially the fact that he complimented my car.

My mods are marginal at best:

3600 stall
built tranny
true duals
lid....

Nice race. Just so you know though... HERE IT COMES DAILY AND SALEEN!!!
Stock psi for a BONE STOCK supra is 11-12psi. Also, he most likely isn't even BPU (BPU is a trademark upgrade level made by suprastore.com and means over 18 psi and more than just a muffler) considering he is still below the stock fuel cut-off of 15 psi. He needs a Greddy BBC (or the likes) to remove this limiter. These are facts, nothing to debate.

Good race none the less, you two were pretty even, and you look very lightly modded as well.

At least I'm in keeping with the usual owner on this site and not a troll or blueblood.

Right you are, and bone stock they are not all that impressive.
Certainly NOT deserving of all of the worship/deification heaped upon them.
I still at your Pooprafanboyzz on the old LS1.com forums claiming 11s from ONLY a 'fish tank valve' boost controller, with everything else bone f'ing stock! <-

Also; they should just list out their mods instead of all the BPU++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ crap!!
There is NO WAY to standardize what each one of their +es mean as far as mods go.

I completely agree. There is too much of that crap in most imports. I can't stand it at all. No doubt the stock supra is over rated, hell the ls1 is to some extent (probably not as much). That comes with every name. I still can't stand it when my idiotic friends see a TPI corvette and go WOWEE a corvette! Ya, and the last of the C3's (78-82) were downright rockets (thank you emmissions). Part of the whole supra legacy is the fact that their biggest fan boys don't even own them or never have, so a lot of info is BS.

I actually have a problem with what the supra owner in this story said. I REALLY doubt he has a power FC or controllable boost controller inside his car so he can up the boost 2 psi, especially considering he was probably still limited. My guess is he's a poor driver (so he sucked on the first run) or he got the jump on you in the second race and the supra's top end barely kept pace with you.

Poor driver mod is definitely a possibility, and he did get a hit on me in the second race. We both had passengers, so I don't know if that would matter or not either.

Good kill! For all the times we have to hear crap about those things from the idiot ricers (note I said idiot ricers, not well informed enthusuasts who actually know that their talking about), I'd take this race and run with. Hell, by the time I was done with this story it'd me me racing f'n Vin Diesel in that orange atrocity from the first movie.

"Yeah, you guys didn't know that he goes around the country popping up for races here and there and then disappearing into the night?"...ricer fanboys stare in awe...

I raced a pooprah with a 70mm and 18 psi at the track when I just had headers and a lid and beat him 5 times in a row. We 70 roll raced on the hwy on the way home and he walked all over me.

Nice kell.

I swear I'm going to go to the track and start video taping every 1000+ horse power Supra and their popping and wheezing 11-13 second passes. There are more fables and excuses surrounding those cars than any other vehicle out there.
I like the Supras, but Rich guys and Fan Boyz have taken what is a very good performing car and turned it into the face of the Fast & The Furious generation.

I've seen them too. Most of the time they have chosen the wrong turbo, so their peak power is 1000 but they are better off with something smaller like a gt35r and 400-600rwhp. A lot of inexperienced tuners (and shops) are just after peak "dyno queen" numbers so they can keep spewing their BS and promoting their shop, most of these drivers are poor as well. BUT, on the other hand, properly setup 900hp supras are running 9's all day. I've seen properly setup 600whp supras running 10's. I've also seen, in person, the boost logic supra run a mid 7 down the 1320. A lot of the crappy pupras are the result of turbos that are too large, poor tuning, and claiming the peak numbers that they won't even hit. There will always be people in a group of cars that ruins it. I'm sure you guys have seen plenty of riced out trans ams (that one on ebay takes the cake), and I myself have a friend whose convinced his 97 3.8l camaro is faster than me (now that's going too far). It all comes down to what you do personally. I like to think I'm not a ricer and that if I was given a supra I could get her putting down and running some decent numbers...

Great kill/loss? Where abouts did you run into this Supra? Was it black? I've seen a black Supra around gilbert and he won't play... Now I know why (if it is the same one).

Edit- Forgot to ask, any track times yet?

Thought that was him. Good to hear you got him to play bro. Bet you would have pulled him good from a dig with your setup (pending traction of course haha)

Yeah... this 112-115 degree heat isn't exactly friendly is it?

Unfortunately, Even some of the big name shops fit the profile of having a car that runs an 8 on one day, an 11 the next and a 10 the next. Of course we all know that you are as fast as your fastest time, so the one 8 second time slip out of 30 makes your car an 8 second car. When my car runs an 8, it runs it every time within a couple of tenths. Your right, A Supra can be built conseratively to run 10s pass over pass, but the majority of them don't use that recipe when they are building them..everyone wants a 1000 hp car, even when a lower horsepower car could potentially run a faster time.

I personally can't stand it. You don't see much of it in japan, but they tend to try and build the whole package (handling, top speed, drag in one) but that can be ugly too. It's just foolish. It gets even worse when they try and include street manners, ugh. The boost logic supra is pretty consistent though, titan on the other hand has turned up some 1000hp lemons with poor drivers to boot. When it comes down to it though, the 2jz can be a very capable motor, definitely not as capable or cheap as an SBC, but very capable in the right hands.

Poopras for 160mph+ racing on the highway.

I do agree with what someone said here. Alot of people build these cars for the wrong reasons. Mostly for bragging rights...Putting a gigantic turbo that you will not enjoy very much on the street because of excessive lag and no traction on street tires is useless. Not to mention most of these high power cars need to run on 116+ octane ALL THE TIME that's easily in the $12/gall+ range. Not exactly my idea of a street car.

I do love what the cars can do though in the proper hands.

Good kill OP.
