In terms of non-organized races, most of the stories on the internet are from a roll....

This is all conjecture, I've never done it, of course:

On a limited access highway, a race from a roll to, say, 80-85mph is safer than my daily commute in rush hour traffic, the race is very brief, and its immediately known which car is faster.

From a "dig", a lousy launch can mean a full 1/8 mile, an speeds OVER 85mph, before the faster car can catch up. This increases exposure as well.

The track is always preferred, but for many of us, too far to visit but a few times a year, if at all. The constant traffic on the highway also usually assures a dry surface rather than cars of unknown condition leaving oil or water in your path after a WOT run right before you go.

I also have my own set of rules as well:

Only in a straight line
Never where another car has to be passed or weaving in traffic
Never through an intersection
Never against a POS car of questionable maintenance

That or a racer IQ test. Who honestly is going to tell how it really is? LOL

OP roll racing is fun but, not real street racing.

man, all u guys pointed out some good points in regards to consequences and fast and furious kids thinking they can go under 18 wheel trucks and all. but when i was maybe in jr. high or so, all i saw was 5.0's and imports. never knew a damn thing about cars. all i saw was kids going fast as hell and zig zaggin through traffic. and me not knowing anything about drag racing or anything thought that was racing..

thats why sometimes, i wonder how much more is it worth to mod my car. i dont take it to the track or anything. and i damn sure dont want to get caught racing or anything. thats why i never really drive my car anymore. if i do take the Z out, it will be with the wifey and kids just to go out to eat or so. plus, with the family, it will never ever, let me do anything foolish.

I LOVE STREET RACING!!!! If you crash and die so be it... I however don't race very ofter in busy cities where you can kill others or get arrested by the police...

I've been part of street racing for the past 6 years in South Central, Los Angeles on late Friday nights... It's a super wide empty street like alley way that runs a quarter mile...Flat closed business building on both side way back from the street, no parked cars around either... So it is as safe as street racing will ever get..

The scene gets broken up by cops not for racing but other reasons like violence , between gang bangers, ricers, etc.. sometimes.... You really get all types showing up...Asians, blacks, Mexicans and even a few redneck white boys like myself...Usually it's a cool scene but every once in a while you get a drunk Mexican gang banger that starts crap and that's a shame...

I've raced against Vettes, Viper, Mustangs, Boosted Honda's, Muscle cars, Nissan's, you name it over the years.. I won some and lost some but never saw a crash...Seen some cars break down racing and or get really squirly...

It's a blast and can't even compare to the track...It's pure adrenaline and you never know who your compitition is...Just line up, another car lines up and your off...Bragging rights afterwards...

Too Good!!!!
