Default Parking Break

Ok, when I got my T/A I had the dealer do an inspection before I bought it. One of the things they told me that the parking break was on its last adjustment and needed 'new shoes' soon. My friend and I are mechanically inclined, but neither of us have done a parking break before. Anyone have a 'parking break for idiots' template for me? Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't need new shoes. Its not that kind of system. The parking brakes on these cars are a special patented system that is not self adjusting. Unless you go drifting in the car, your parking brake shoe should be pristine.

The catch is that its not a simple "adjustment" like many other cars. You have to take the entire caliper and rotor off the back to get to the adjusting wheel and then you have to adjust the tension at each rear wheel individually.

Ok, thanks for the update. The dealer here doesn't have many of these to look at on this small rock. I figured they were just trying to make me spend money. I'll bug my friend and see if we can figure it out.

Actually... the company that makes them is in Australia. You can probably get the parts easier than we can in the lower 48! http://www.pbr.com.au/technology/parkbrakes.shtml
