Default ball joint

Can the ball joint on the upper a-arm be replaces. The end of mine looked crushed in about a 1/4" on the drivers side and the drivers side sits a 1/4" lower.

Yes. You drill out the rivets and bolt a new one in. Call XRF up and see if they offer one for our car. I highly recommend them if they do. If not, go with the higher-end Spicer or Moog. Avoid cheapies. Ball joints are important parts and you don't want to skimp on them.

Pick yourself up a good drill bit. I have a set of Ridgid cobalt bits from HD and they are amazing.

I second that, i just did an upper on the driver's side. Most likely the replacement will be greasable, as the Moog was for mine. Be sure to have a grease gun handy.

Post back what you think. I use their parts in my truck and they're beefy and awesome. I have read only good things about them. But I hate being the only person on this board to be recommending them! Their prices are good, too. Usually between Spicer's two lines while being as good or better than Spicer's good stuff.

i never even looked at mine, cant you just chisel them off like on a blazer? Or do you have to drill them? Air hammer will make quick work out of that.

There are many ways to do it. I guarantee you I could have it done with my cordless drill and cobalt bits in under 60 seconds (assuming I can reach where I need to, or that the part has already been taken off the vehicle, our cars requiring the latter)

Hell, you can do it with a grinder/dremel if you want. (Only as a last resort, IMO)

I air hammered a blazer balljoint out, only took a few minutes. Control arm still on the car, if ours is like theirs i'd definitely do that again, it was fun.

I can drill through a rivet in 10 seconds or less. I've had crap drill bits that wouldn't do it at all though.

Don't get the cheap Autozone ones. I tried an Autozone one cause no else had any in stock. Well the ball joint wouldn't sit flush on the A arm. So I retruned and and wait a day for a moog. Fits much better and the quality is a lot better. Just drill out the rivets it's not too hard.

You can also just get factory replacements: McQuay-Norris Upper ball joint FA2111
Which I would recommend with tubular upper control arms.

i think the factory uppers are just fine and dandy.

the moog is very slightly better but mostly because of the fact it is greaseable.

for the lowers the moog is a much better part than the factory and a lot beefier.

the factory uppers should last you a long time.

I've had problems before with the moog metal boot retainer getting bent when used with aftermarket tubular upper control arms.

Yeah. I use their tie rod ends. Awesome stuff. More well known on some other boards.
