Just curious is it NHRA legal to have the battery relocated to the spare tire area without a cutoff switch on the back of the car? I'd like to relocate mine but don't really want to drill a hole in the car...

You have to have the cutoff switch. Friend of mine just did it and he mounted the switch right on top of the license plate.

Does it have to be a "switch"? Maybe you could use the breakout connectors that Parts Express has? They have them as big as 1/0 gauge. You'd use them like:

(Battery +) => fuse => breakaway connector === breakaway connector => to engine bay
(Battery -) => breakaway connector === breakaway connector => to ground

Ok, here's how the switch appears on the license plate, the cables going to the switch and the battery location itself. Of course, he has a cover for the battery and the whole thing is a very slick install.

He told me today that if he were to do it over, he'd just use a single 2 ga cable. But this was the first time he's done it.

The first question crossed my mind ... he just completed the install so he hasn't had it on the street that much. It's not his DD so he only drives it occasionally.

He's bugging me to do it to mine, and I'm thinking about it. But mine IS my DD and I'm a little concerned about doing it for those reasons.

yeah maybe if you could make it easily removable or have a separate switch inside the car to make it functional. so when you go to the track you have the safety feature but around town its by passed. definitely cool though

That's the dumbest battery switch location I have ever seen. Also, it's illegal. We do not own our license plates. They remain property of the state.

ANL fuses can be had for a lot cheaper than $30 a piece. Check out any place that sells car audio - they should have a plethora of ANL and mini-ANL fuses in stock for a couple bucks a piece. Alternately, they can be found online for about $6 each, for any rating between 80 and 300 amps.

^ Yeah, but I'm looking for the mounting blocks. Not sure if a stereo place would have them.
