Default Loose Steering

Ok so i have a 99 Z28. And the car is lowered with koni double adj in front and biltsien out back. So the car has over 100k on the clock and i dont like how much play there is in the steering wheel. Now i am figuring i will need new tie rod ends and possibly need the steering rack rebuilt? Does anyone know if someone sells a new steering rack? So if you guys can point me in the right direction that would be nice.

Outer tie rod ends wear out pretty quick on these cars. I would expect you need to replace these at least. The inner tie rod ends last a bit longer, but I would think these would die before your steering rack. If it is the rack, lots of remanufactured racks come with the inner tie rod ends, so plan ahead. Dont know if anyone has had bad luck with any particular brand of rack, but Im sure they will chime in.
And lastly, realize you have to jack the engine up slightly if you need to replace the steering rack. The bolts are too long to be removed without doing it.

I would replace the outer tie rod ends, without question. I have a '96 Z-28 with 72,000 miles on it. Over the winter, while it was off the road, I replaced the rod ends, and also installed an "Unbalanced Engineering" rag joint eliminator. Those parts made a big change in tightening up my steering.

(In your case, with a '99 car, it might not have the rag joint in the steering column)
