Heater Hose Mod Writeup
#101
Here is my DD 98 with the heater hose mod and and a coil cut out of the front
I like the way it looks but the heater hose mod was a very small change.
Thinkin about taking it out and cutting the coil, and putting the isolator back on.
EDIT: The springs just fall out if you take out the lower bolt holding the shock... 3 minutes more work and it comes out like butter

This is what I was going to do. Although I have a few questions before cutting the old springs. I only want to lower the rear 1/2" - 3/4". The front I'd like an 1". I thought of only cutting the front springs & using drag shocks front & rear. I was only going to do the hose trick in th rear, not cut them.
1st: Can anyone tell me if I'm asking for problems "cutting the front springs"?
2nd: What shocks are best to use for a street application?
3rd: Am I going to have good enough weight X-fer using the stock springs?
4th: Do I need to have an alingnment after doing these mods?

I ADDED the heater hose (retained isolator) on mine to bring my Pro-Kit up about a 1/2" or so in the back.. Or just the hair that I needed to get to STOP bottoming out in back.

Silly question for you. Is your car on level ground and are you sure your springs are the same length? Sometimes spring length is different between pairs of springs. I tried a different rate rear springs once and after they had settled I ended up going back to my lighter ones, but what I noticed is that my heavier springs had settled/compressed to different lengths. Alot of cars have a little lean in them. It seems to be a common thing with f-bodies. As far as cutting one spring, I don't know what effect that would have or how it would effect the front ride height. I think most people just live with the leaning.

Just got done an hour ago...... for reference :
On a 98 Camaro SS with 150K on the clock.
My rear springs are the original stock springs. I cut them both 3/4 of a coil & removed the isolator which I replaced with about 12" of heater hose only.
With this done I got a 1&3/4" drop. It appears even. I needed every bit of that 1 3/4 inch drop too!! I think my SS came off the line as a special 4x4 version or something.

Just walked in from doing the heater hose, still kinda high, and the front sits at 28 inches, the rear at 27. I want to cut a coil out of the front and half a coil from the rear. All temporary till I have enough saved for my koni/bmr set up
Don't mind my missing center cap, it's being ordered.
