spohn torque arm problems. need advice hi, i just put on a chassis mounted spohn torque arm today. i bought the one for long tube headers. my car is lowered and where the cross member bends to clear your y-pipe is only about 2" off the ground. i only bought this one because i do have long tube headers. the funny thing is the cross-member for the std exhaust would have worked fine. it would have had no problems clearing my y-pipe. i was leaving my friends shop and was only driving about 10 mph and i hit a man hole cover and it brought my car to a dead stop. i can't even go over any speed bumps at all. i might be able to cut the bend portion out and weld in some straight pipe. any one have this problem??? what did you do to fix it??? any help would be really appreciated. thanks,mike
i had the UMI version of tis set up and did exactly the same thing...manhole cover and the crossbrace just snapped at the welds...i then replaced the brace with the straight versions as it too worked fine with my long tube/y pipe set up (kooks). then i eventually got sick of the added noise/harshness of the tq arm in between hard shifts and when launching the car so i replaced my entire TQ arm setup with a Spohn transmission mount style TQ arm but i then bought the UMI tq arm relocation/transmission crossbrace and its the best. wish they had come out with it sooner so i didnt have to go through so many tq arm setups....
Call Steve or Gordon Spohn. They have top notch customer service and should be able to provide a soluton...Have used their stuff for years and they have always treated me well...

hi, thanks for the replies guys. the product is very well made and no complaints about the quality. i just wish i went with the std exhaust cross-member. there is plenty of room and no need to go with the long tube header version.i did contact them and they said i could buy the std version or possibly find some one to weld in straight pipe in replace of the bent tubing.

I just installed a spohn ta myself and my hangs quite low. My car has been lowered an inch so I have about 2in clearance from the pavement to my ta. I haven't had any problems with mine so far but do tend to scrub when turning into or coming out of places when I cant take them at an angle...
hi, ya they sell the standard,but its another 195.00 for the cross-member. hell i wish i would have asked more questions. i just bought the one thats advertised for long tube headers. i won't drive the car with this set up. i am afraid i will hit something at a high rate of speed and it would be real bad. it would probably cause me to wreck the car.
