just remove the tailshaft cone from the trans. its only 4 bolts. Remove it and then work on it. it will save you all the hassle and BS

You can grind the rivets off with a 4" grinder with the clam shell still on the car. I ran into the same problem and was able to grind them off still. Its kind of a bitch getting things set but just rotate the back clam shell around till you can get to them.
