Newbie suspension question

Default Newbie suspension question

well ok so i have heard both ways that the 98+ fbodies have struts on the front of the car and upon looking at them they look just like struts.But i keep hearing they are coilover shocks.So what exactly does a 98trans am have on them.Because i am looking to upgrade my front suspension and have no clue what to get .Shocks/struts/coilovers.Upon looking at ws6store they have sturts for the front and also have shocks .I am lost please explain in simple terms lol .


Because i know the fronts are shot because it rides like pure ***

The fronts on the 93-02 camaro/firebirds are coilover shocks, not struts.

The 82-92 camaro/firebirds do have front Struts.

The third gens have a strut the fourth gen has a shock. If a car has a upper a arm it has a shock not a strut. If the car has no upper a arm then it has a strut. Hope that helps.

They are shocks, but it it has nothing to do with having an upper a-arm. The rear doesn't, trucks don't.

It simply has to do with the fact a strut locates the steering knuckle, a shock doesn't
