My car has no rear sway bar...WTF?
So I've only had my Trans Am for about 9 months, and I had never noticed it. Tonight, while I was installing my PHB, I noticed that it doesn't have a rear sway bar? This can't be normal can it? From what I know, all f-bodys came with one from the factory correct?

That's what I was figuring, I wonder what on earth ever happened to the factory one...it looks like the previous owner even cut the mounting brackets off of the rear end too!

Mounting brackets on the axle are just u-bolts with brackets. They can't be cut off.. they just mount on. You can just get a new set from GM. If the previous owner swapped back to a 10, he probably didn't feel like going through the trouble of putting them back or maybe rusted/broke his old ones. Either way, simple fix.

Your car should have one on it. We have a sway bar mount kit to mount a factory bar or aftermarket bar on your car. If you decide to upgrade to bigger aftermarket bars we have a lightweight 35mm front bar and a 25mm
rear that are cold formed that resists torsional fatigue better than a hot formed bar. The bars are available separately or as a set. Both bars come with new end links and bushings. Here is a link to our site. If you need any assistance or have any questions please let me know.

now i'm not recomending doin this on the street, but out here where we are dealing with insanely little grip on our strip, removing the rear swaybar helps getting the 60f down, the car sits more down and hooks better,

My rear sway bar is disconnected. I've got no real problems with the handling. My '00 Z28 has the LS1 Pro-Kit on it (and I hate it) and KYB AGX shocks up front with the crappy white shocks on the back. I've adjusted the fronts some to give the car a better balance, but I haven't really pushed the car hard enough to see if I need the rear bar hooked up yet. But for my normal daily drive, it's not a problem to not have it installed. I think I'll hook it back up after I swap out the rear shocks for some adjustables.

Thanks for all the replies! Guess the next thing I buy will be a sway bar. I always wondered why my car always felt so squirly at high speeds and when rounding corners fast. The rear always felt like it was gonna slide out of the car. The LCA's and PHB helped tremendously but I bet it will feel even better after I get a swaybar on it.

taking off the rear bar will improve grip in a straight line. drag guys often remove them.
however, cornering will suffer as the front end will loose grip.
give sam strano a call. he's got plenty of options depending on your needs and wants.
