Default '01 Suburban - Brake Light Question

quick question on the brake warning light in my '01 Suburban .......

when i activate the emergency brake .... two side-by-side warning lights flash on the cluster. one is the brake light and the other is a brake light with an "!". what does this indicate?

i am trying to diagnose a grab when my brakes are depressed. at first i thought it was that the front pads were worn and the front rotors were warped. so i changed both out. (although the front pads were not totally worn out, there were some grooves ground into the rotor).

but the "grab" has not totally gone away.

at the same time, i noticed that the e-brake lights were flashing vice on steady when i activated the e-brake.

any thoughts?

thanks

bill

so the driver's side e-brake shoe is completely worn out .... hence the flashing brake light. so, how in the world does that happen? i've bought this truck with 20K miles in 2002 .... and i've only set the e-brake a handful of times. it's never been run with the e-brake on. guess that it just wears over time.

Worn parking brake shoes will not cause the brake light to come on or flash. The parking brake is a mechanical system, and is separate from the hydraulic system used for the service brakes.

Sounds like you have another issue. Have you checked the brake fluid level?? Thats a good place to start.
