Default Attn: Torque Arm vendors!

ok I have some xtra money and I wanted to replace my factory torque arm while the transmission was out with a better one. I was doing some research and now I'm scared my exhaust may give an issue?

I am running Kooks LT's with off-road-Y-pipe into SLP Loudmouth, Stock rearend...I'm just looking for something alil better than the factory, no need for chromoly or adjustable stuff. just something stronger than factory and non-adj.

Who has something that will fit?

sorry for stupid question but I was reading some products off WS6 store and only certain rearends and exhausts were acceptable. now I am confused. Plus WS6 store is the only vendor I know of for susepnsion, I couldn't get the side vendor links to work. Laptop acting up I guess.

You should try contacting Midwest Chassis or UMI suspension to see what they have to offer that won't cause you clearance issues with those headers and ORY. Also depends on how much you have to spend! I'd suggest buying one that will leave room for future mods and improvement(adj. and chromoly) but it's your call! LOL

Hello,

All our torque arms will bolt to your rear end and clear that exhaust system. Here is the non-adjustable set up you said you were looking for- www.umiperformance.com/2206

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Their TA is MUCH stronger than the factory stamped steel POS. I plan to run it with a relo kit on my 500rwhp+ 402 in the works and might spray a 150 on it if I get bored....

Hello
Yes the factory Torque Arm is just mild steel! And when you are ready feel free to give me a call and I will be able to look into it and see what I can do for you as far as a chrome moly version.
Thanks

Isn't chrome moly only for weight savings or is it stronger?

No comparison between a UMI adjustable torque arm and stock, or any other torque arm for that matter. The stock one you can literally twist barehanded. Definintely noticeable under hard acceleration also.

I do know someone that welded two stock torque arms together and used it that way. Said it was a good deal.

Chrome moly is stronger and lighter. More expensive though and a little trickier to weld. If you're going for a drag car, pop for the chrome moly.

Stamped stock torque arm is a world apart from a good tubular arm. Im going to be reinstalling my UMI tunnel mount torque arm once i get my cam swap buttoned up.

As far as chromoly goes, you get the weight savings from the fact that you get basically the same strength from a thinner wall tubing when compared to mild steel. It is however more brittle than mild steel, so where mild steel has some give, the chromoly wont.

Moly is stronger yes thats why you can use thinner wall material (thats your weight savings) but a 1ft piece of .095 wall moly weights the same as a 1ft piece of .095 wall mild steel.

oh ok...makes sense Otto, thanks...

Last question before I buy UMI Performance, umm... what exactly do you guys mean when yall say that the torque arm Re-Location will prevent tranny tail damage? I mean I'd have to be pushing ALOT of HP to damage it right?

also are your UMI tunnel braced mounted torque arms weld-in? drilling? or stock bolt in?

Just trying to decide if all I need is a basic non-adj. for my set-up right now future mod will be a TSP crate 383 stroker, H/C, moser 9"...

Hey:

Go with UMI get adj with mild steel to save some cash, but go adj and moly if you can afford it, helps with mods later, and you won't have to buy it twice if your going to race it. Also plan on buying the hardware kit and a relocation kit. www.stranoparts.com is a good place to shop for suspension parts.

why adjustable? I don't see where it is useful at all...I mean if I don't even know why they would have adjustable, i'm surely not gonna know how to actually adjust it to the right amount lol...
