Your parking brake shoes are probably getting hung up on the lip inside the rotor. I can't remember for sure, but there may be a star wheel adjuster in the rear of the backing plate for parking brake shoe adjustment. Adjust that wheel all the way inwards to pull the parking brake shoes away from the rotor and slide it off.

It's been a long time since I screwed with the stock brakes but isn't there a clip or something on a lug you have to get off first?

nope, as long as you take off the caliper, bracket, and make sure your ebrake isn't pulled up you should be able to hammer away. Nothing else holding it on except for rust.
