Yea I had the same deal. Kinda seems that if my cheap KYB's came with a new nuts, the high dollar Koni's could throw in a $2 nut... I had to throw my stock shocks back on, drive to a scrap yard and pull some off a V6 Camaro. Dealer wanted more than $20 for the one nut

You could look at it another way.... If KYB or whatever aftermarket shock one may have would have just make their stuff compatible with OEM, there also would have been no issue. Koni doesn't supply it because they have to assume that the car has stock shocks, as it was built--that's the common denominator between cars. Yes, I suppose they could included new nuts, but that is more cost, more parts to be shipped, etc for no reason other than someone might have non-stock stuff, which they can't account for.

Ehh... I'm happy with my Koni's but it is an oversight on their part to not include new nuts. If I'm paying top dollar for premium shocks, throw the damn nuts in there. 4th gens can be up to 17 years old, do they really want us reusing that nut? I mean on my 02' when I changed the stock shocks I had to cut the bolt because the nut was welded on there.

I honestly figured it was just bad luck that mine didn't come with nuts. I'm quite surprised to learn that this was by design.

Look out Sam! I heard BMR's latest promotion was "2 free lower shock nuts with the purchase of 2 Koni rear shocks!

I am of course teasing and I have been very happy with the experience and customer service I have received from Sam Strano

That's because 3rd gens stock used a variety of different OEM nuts... And yes they do cost less and come with a nut.... but the trade off is less adjustment flexibility and more time consuming to change. Everything has it's pluses and minuses.

Sounds about right. I thought the pitch was a a little finer, but like you, I'm going from memory.

I finally got my car out of the trailer. I'll put a pitch gauge on them this evening.

Thumbs down

I think that is crap -- Bilstein includes two new rear lower axle nuts, Koni sure should too for the price!

Did this thread have to be brought back up for that?

I suppose they could include it, but the ones on my car (and on many others' cars I'm assuming) were stock and were perfectly fine to use again on the new shocks. No reason to include more parts that aren't necessarily necessary.

I have the four nuts too, but those are for the interior shock connection. I am referring to the exterior bottom nut (rear).

Considering how many years this has been the case, it's clearly not a major issue... It sucks if you have to chase down new nuts, but again the stock nuts are just fine and there is no need to fix what isn't broken. There is always a case, somewhere, where someone has a glitch that has nothing to do with the new part. Why stop at a nut? Why not new upper mounts (they fail and get old and rusty after all).

To each his own I guess. I understand why they don't come with them, and honestly over the years it's never been any sort of issue for anyone. I get it, just don't think it's a big deal either way....

What's wrong with using your existing nuts? Is that really a dealbreaker for you so much that you don't want to go with Koni now? Springs don't come with new isolators. STB's don't come with new shock tower nuts.
