Are the 6 piston calipers priced close to the 4 piston CTS-V calipers that are now non-existent?

Not bad considering the price of some of the bbk kits on the market

6 piston Z06 and 4 piston CTS-V are a better bang for your buck. The reason people are doing this over BBK kits on the market is the "cheap" part.

these are 6 piston brembos, they are better than the 6 piston PBR's that the Z06 has by so much it's not even funny

^Very true I couldnt agree more but that was not my point. The 4 piston brembos are more than enough brake for a bolt on F-body. For $850 I can get everything for the front where as your spending $700 alone just for these calipers. Just my .02

There's the whole Race Star/Greg Weld original wheel not fitting the LS1 brakes, but the new versions fitting the brakes. Meaning that not all 18" wheels, or wheels in general, dimensions are going to be near the same..

What this means is for the people choosing the 6-piston setup, what works for some might not work for you.
It looks like to get wheels to fit your going to have to have around 40mm offsets with or without spacers and a design that has the spokes flush with the surface of the rim. I don't see any way to get a dished rim to work unless it's spaced so far out that it sticks way outside the fender.

Scott, Thanks for posting the article. Do you have the pn for the pin kit needed for the calipers?

What does anyone think about the difference in braking performance between the older 4 piston and the new 6 piston CTSV brakes?

The 4 pistons are on national backorder. I was told from partstaxi and gmpartsdirect that they will be producing them again but no one knows when. So for now the only way to get them is if someone here on tech is selling a pair or on ebay. The ones I see on ebay must be made out of gold because their sometimes priced at over $1000 for all 4..

With the 14-inch Z06 rotor and the 6-piston CTS-V caliper, the pad covers nearly 100-percent of the rotor surface, with no overhang on the leading or trailing edge of the rotor (you will note that the inside "hat" of the rotor has a little tiny bit of slight wear, but it isn't anything to worry about, that surface is flat)

A 15.5-inch CTS-V rotor would be great, however I am not sure you could even run a 19-inch wheel, and surely not an 18. For the racing many of us do, and especially the racing we plan on doing, a 19-inch wheel just wouldn't work.

In terms of price, we chose to do the best upgrade possible using stock GM parts and felt we have accomplished that. A custom rotor wouldn't have offered any benefit to us, although in certain applications I am sure it might.

Anyway, glad to see this topic being discussed, and please post up any further questions you have. Also, since you are planning to do a similar swap, please post pictures as you go along, it would be great to see another perspective on this particular install. We are here to help!
Why is the brake pad sticking out of the caliper in that pic you posted?

I have a 4 piston front set sitting in my garage. That's why I'm wondering.

Latest ETA is first quarter of next year on the calipers.

Pin kit part number is 89047759. I have them in stock if anyone needs any.

Thanks
Kevin

Is that the pin kit for the 4 or 6 piston calipers or does it fit both?

Just a quick heads up. I talked to one of my friends at GM yesterday. There are 140 pairs of the CTS-V calipers inbound to GM. He estimated once they are received, processed, and sent, should be available to dealers mid December. I put in an order for more then half of the total stock they had coming in.

I don't mean to jack, but my gripe with the CTS-V Brake upgrade is that I have heard very little about a matching REAR upgrade. Strano has also mentioned this now "Un-balanced" setup before too. Stock rears with 6 piston ft calipers and large rotors doesn't sit well with me. The car will be nose-dive happy. You will almost end up with a brake jab = oversteer condition.
