Default Struts / springs wont compress when in car - Urgent Help!

I am in the process of swaping out strut on my car, Ive got everything back together and bolted on. However, the front left spring/strut assembly will not compress when I put the weight of the car on it. It is stuck in the fully extended position. I've tried rocking the car and hammering the spring, to no avail. What should I do? Should I take the thing back apart? Help!

I got it.

Answer was leverage: since both sides of the car were on jackstands, jacking up one side of the car wouldnt put enough pressure on the springs to compress them.

Doh.
