Default brakes

anybody ever bought any of these slotted vented rotors and pad kits on ebay? i know some are way to cheap but was wondering if any of the 600 dollar kits might be worth it?

Honestly, and my personal opinion is you get what you pay for, Yes they are cheap, but more than likely are not going to last a while. I'm not saying that they may not be good brakes, but they may warp/wear more that a better brand set.....just some food for thought. Usually all they are is cheap-o rotors that they drill & slot and then re sell them and they look more fancy.

I've bought a crap load of car stuff off eBay over the years. Clear corners, lights, stuff like that. But I'd be a little concerned buying important stuff like brakes off eBay unless you know where they came from. I got a counterfeit optispark off eBay a while back and it caused me a lot of grief.

Not sure if R1 concepts still sells on eBay, but they are the only brand that I would trust. They also have their own website.

Most of the stuff on eBay is pirated chinese garbage, and you don't want to mess around with brake components.

I think you'd be better off getting blanks anyways, they're less prone to warping, easier on pads, dont crack, resist temperature increase better, and have more area so you have more of your pad contacting the surface....

....just something else to think of.

Thanks for the input, i think i will just stick with factory pads n rotors, as they seem to last longer than any others!

I'm probably going to do the same thing, except I'm going to go with Hawk pads and change out the fluid.

After reading a few threads, it seems like for all but hardcore use, the stock set up is pretty good; most brake changes I've seen were for appearance. The brakes on my LT1 seemed pretty decent and although I haven't driven my new LS1 all that hard, they seem to be even a little better than the LT1 brakes.

Sometimes we "over think" these things. The main thing I've found on these cars that are flat out awful and should be upgraded immediately are the shocks.

Hang on now... You can do factory if you want, but they tend to not be inexpensive and are nothing special, in fact they are sort of warp prone (many don't know that since clearly the newest car is now 8 years old and most likely don't have stock rotors anymore).

I've got inexpensive, but quality blanks. I've got ATE rotors which are slotted and coated. I've got the Racing Brake rotors that are too (and directionally vaned too on the front). I don't tend to do drilled rotors and I don't sell inexpensive slotted rotors because slotting a cheap rotor is asking for trouble.

I bought a set of C5 slotted/drilled rotors and a set of pads off ebay for $103 shipped. Installed them last March and have had zero issues. I check them quite often for cracking and haven't had a problem with that either. The drilling also didn't go through any of the cooling fins within the rotor. The car isn't beat on constantly, but does see some heavy braking a few times a week just for the thrill. :p
