Default ABS Delete??

I'm kind of torn. ABS has saved my *** once or twice but I've been seeing it as being a PITFA this past winter with my 04 Pickup truck. I haven't really had it kick on much with the Camaro, but at times I think it may be why I'm not in love with the brake feel of the car.

As far as my issues with my truck; if that POS has ONE wheel that is slick, it will kill the pressure to the WHOLE SYSTEM. THAT has almost gotten me into trouble becuase the right side was wet and the left side was dry and I almost ABS'd into a fukin intersection because of it.

Anyway.. I'm kicking around the idea of deleting my ABS and SJM has a good kit for it at a nice price. I could do it this summer or so. Just wondering what the general consensus was on this.. Yea or nay?

I deleted it on my firebird and lost 15+ lbs off the car. I put a adjustable proportioning valve on the rear and T unioned the front lines together. Works great for me but I only drag race it and I live in florida.

Yeah.. I'm wondering how the street cars survive with the delete. My buddy deleted the ABS on his car (Different car.. Non-domestic) and he was saying his brakes are fine. They hardly ever lock up, almost never.

I was almost wondering abotu re-plumbing the front systems, and maybe taking the back system down to shorten in to get rid of the spaghetti mess up front. I'll have to take another look at the system again when I start tinkering around w it again today.

I did the wire mod, and then went to the driver's side and started hiding my Aux power cables. Started wondering if I could do something w the ABS and wondered if I really needed it. Trying to clean up the engine bay.

With a steady foot under normal driving conditions, you can easily live without ABS. If you get into a situation where you need to make a panic stop, like if someone pulls out in front of you on a wet road or really even a dry one, that is where ABS was designed to really save your ***. This is the kind of stuff that you can't control, and rely solely on how your brain and body react to emergency situations.

My car is 100% street driven, but only in nice weather, and usually not to work. I've lived without ABS for a few years at this point, but my car is never really driven under less than ideal conditions.

There are some people in this world that could probably outdrive older ABS systems...I certainly fight with the one on my truck all the damn time. Newer, better designed systems, however, are hard if not impossible to outdrive (newer Corvettes come to mind).

^ Same here. It's a street toy that is only taken out when the weather is known to cooperate. It's driven once or twice a week and that's pretty much it.

I did have one panic stop with this car a number of years ago, but I usually instincively steer away from the problem. At the time, the traffic in front of me came to a grinding hault (as it does for no reason here) and I steered into a driveway and almost onto the sidewalk.

From what I was taught in tech school, the ABS did as it was designed to do; provide control under less than ideal braking conditions. It allows the tires to maintain traction to provide control while resisting lockup which does not always allow you to be able to steer away from the obstruction or "problem."

That's why I've always been hesitant about deleting the ABS, but I've been pretty careful as far as driving in the past number of years... But sometimes with these idiots around here, you never know..

To me its not worth getting rid of it, because as soon as you go and get rid of it youll need it when someone cuts in front of you and brakes, or people randomly stopping in the lane, or any other dumb situations, that being able to brake and steer saved you from wrecking. Would make life so much easier if I were just to get rid of it, as I could get any rear end. I dd my car so its more important to me, with all the people that cant drive here.

I'm getting ready to install the SJM kit. This is the only vehicle I've owned with ABS and air bags, I figure I don't need either.

Buy the SJM kit and don't look back. I installed mine about 2 weeks ago. I did the ABS delete and the line lock. I don't notice any difference in braking without the ABS and the line lock is really nice to have at the track. Removing all the ABS crap really cleans up the engine bay nicely too.
