Brakes dissipate the car's energy as heat. If you stop quickly or slowly, the laws of physics dictate that the same amount of heat will be built up and dissipated by the brakes.
The heat cycling would be different between the two and the temperatures should be higher with faster braking. The forces on the brake/suspension components will also be greater.
