Exclamation Help with factory bump stops!!!

I've searched around, but I'm still confused on which bump stops I need to get. My car is a 2000 Trans Am (NON-WS6). I have 17" wheels with all stock suspension (for now).

I found these two on Hawks Third Gen website.

It says that these black ones are a direct replacement for the stock bump stops. $130 Shipped.

The website also lists these red ones. These come with the SLP spacer and are made for 17" rims. However, he has a disclaimer saying that if the car has 17" wheels AND is also lowered (mine isn't yet) then I will need the stock bump stops pictured above. $130 Shipped.

I'm leaning towards the direct replacement ones since they are the same size I have now. However, I like the idea of a spacer since it will make contact sooner when needed. My car isn't lowered, but I do plan on getting lowering springs in the future. Which ones should I get??

ALSO, I checked with GMPartsDirect and they list the stock bump stop at $33.44 each (GM part #10164173). What's the advantage of getting the Polyurethane bump stops pictured above versus whatever the stock ones are made out of? There's a huge difference in price obviously.

Thanks!

Bump stops are basically like a SUPER DUPER STIFF spring when you bottom out. Its not something you want to constantly be bouncing off of.

If you ever plan on lowering, spend your money once and go with the top set.

Hell, I would go with the top set even if you never plan on lowering.

Thumbs up

If you already have the aluminum spacers as shown in the first pic above, some jeep spacers made by energy suspension will work for a lot less, p/n 9.9137r YMMV!
Like $22 delivered from Amazon for a pair!

energy susp p/n 9.9137r on stock gm spacers below:

stock gm w/ SLP spacers below:

I am NOT lowered and run a 17x11 rim

Don't buy that over-priced **** from Hawks Turd Gen. I bought the ES Jeep mounts for $20 a set.

Ya that seems like a RIDICULOUS price for some rear bumpstops, I would never pay that.

As Strano has pointed out, remove your aluminum spacers to gain a little more suspension travel with the OEM bumpstops (some aftermarket ones may require spacers), also the stockers are a softer/gradual, more desirable transition than poly ones...

I have Strano springs and originally I ran a new stock Z28 bumpstop in place of my WS6 setup. It had very little free travel so I switched to my stock WS6 bumpstop without the stock aluminum spacer. The result is a much better ride over bad roads and a more controlled feeling instead of harsh bouncing off the bumpstop.

Its rough but Ive got a Moser 9, Stranos, Bilsteins, and all new bushings in the rear so Im not sure. Somethings hitting hard. My TQ arm rubs the DS tunnel but it made the same noise with the 10 bolt so its hard to say. The bumpstops are dirty from having hit the axle but I havnt really looked into it too much....

Not trying to thread jack btw my bad ha

yeah ...those are the originals that have dry rotted. My OEM's were like that too thats why i changed as soon as i seen them when cleaning the rims one day...lol

i mean im sure they are hit every now and then but not enough to warrant a $70 purchase for them when you can spend 1/4 that but as long as your happy thats all that matters.

peace!

on a side note....i likes the whites...would match my strano's

You'd think that they don't get hit that often (especially on a stock height car) but mine on my 98 Camaro were falling off, particularly the one side. I did the same as the OP and got the white OEM foam stops. I got them from a sponsor on another site, cost me about $70 shipped.

Default Did you have to mod the 9.9137?

I found these online and they look like they will do the trick.
http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...sp?prod=9.9137

I also saw some comments that people had to mod the mounting holes. Is that true or were you able to use them right out of the package

I have a 96 TA, stock (for the most part)

Thanks in advance for the advice

GNO
