Im in the process of installing Bilstein shocks and Hotchkis springs right now. I could not get the stock dust boot and bump stop (which also has a metal ring on the top of the boot) in with my spring compressors, so I just left it out. Is the bump stop necessary? It has a metal ring on the top, does that serve any purpose other than the dust boot? What I am saying is does it need to be there for the upper strut mount to sit on? Right now my upper strut mount is over the smaller threaded part of the shock piston and the bottom of it is on the part of the shock piston that gets bigger. To me it doesnt seem like enough? I could be wrong and I hope I am because I really dont want to take it back out of the car again. Heres how my shock is assembled
