Default In the process of removing the steering rack, few ?s...

The driver's side steering rack mounting bolt, did you have to loosen the motor mount and jack up the engine to get the bolt out? Or, if not, what was your method?

The steering shaft, I loosened the 11 mm bolt where it slips over the rod at the rack-pinion, how do you get the damn shaft off?

For the steering shaft, you have to remove the bolt at the rack. I had to also loosen the bolt on the other end of the shaft so it would slide up enough for me to pull it off of the rack. I don't remember how I got the rack mount bolt off, but I do remember it was a bitch, and when it was time to put it back in, I put it in the other way to make future removals easier.

That last tip is ingenious! Thanks.

I'm working on getting the damn motor mount loose, GM and their brilliant ideas put the bolts in so that when I remove the driver's side there isn't enough height so it hits the oil pan. If they were to install them with the nut on top, I'd be done with the whole job now.

Cannibal, when you get it out, can you tell me the size of the jams that are on the passenger side for the bolt?

18MM for the bolt head size and 15 MM for the nut that goes on the other end.

I got the old rack out and the new one in, including a new pump. I had to remove the driver's side motor mount to remove the driver's side steering rack bolt.

Is that the bolt size or the size of the metal jam thing that goes into the rack? I'm trying to find a set of the metal pieces that hold the passenger side in place.

replaced my rack today.

... the dealer tech was either smart, or lazy when it was done under warranty.

My drivers side was nut on top, made it much easier.

After looking under there, i see how hard it would have been to do correctly

Ryan.
