Default Rear shock bolts

2002 Firebird came from Illinois so there is some rust on a few bolts under the car

the lower shock bolts are rusted on... you try to put a ratchet on and turn .. it just turns the bolt and weird plate on the back side... what gives? any tricks for taking them off?

if you mean the stud inside the shock's bushings is spinning the try a good
1/2" air gun and some heat from a torch.
use bake fluid to soak it for 15mins first.

and try to fit a vise-grip on the stud to hold it in place.

Yes, a good quality hammering air gun will zip it off, probably don't even need heat. Penetrating oil beforehand is a good idea.

If this doesn't work use a little propane torch and heat the nut and it should come off.
