Default Anoth bump stop question

My brothers 2000 z28 has 17" staggered oe wheelsllc zr1 style... This car jumps like a grasshopper everywhere we go.. We noticed it has bump stops that are 100% always on contact on the axle... They are way long like an inch and half thick bracket then the bump stop... Any reason why it should be like this? I want to take them off and replace with regular stops but not sure if it's something bc of the wide 17s

If your car isnt lowered from my expierence you can just cut off the bump stop's in the rear. I run those same wheels ZR1 17x11 out back and removed my rear bump stop's years ago along with cutting off the mount perches. I have no abnormal bottom outs causing damage.

Wheel width won't make any difference on your ride height. Either the rear springs aren't stock and are giving the car a big drop, or the bump stops aren't stock and are too big. I'd make sure they're not OEM bump stops before yanking them off and assuming the car doesn't have suspension issues in other places making the *** end sit way low.

Don't remove your bumpstops completely, just take off the spacer and it'll give you some more clearance.

The whole bumpstop crazy that's been all the rage on LS1tech as of late is odd to me. I have owned 3 LS1 F-bodies and none of them had bumpstops. I cut them out to clear my wheels and I never had a single problem. Yes, they're there for a reason, but that doesn't mean that not having them on a properly setup car will be a problem. As a matter of fact, I would say most guys end up cutting them out. Gotta shove those 325s in there somehow.

If you have a stock height car, you can probably get by without them and be okay, or if you have insanely stiff rear lowering springs, your car will ride like crap, but you'll be okay without them. I have Strano springs (no heater hose mod) and Koni shocks without bump stops and the car has definitely bottomed out several times on the freeway, especially with someone riding in the back. It feels horrible when this happens and cannot be good for the car or safe at those speeds. I'd say if you lower your car, as a rule, you should have bump stops.

I recently replaced my dry-rotted off factory rear bump stops with the aftermarket urethane Jeep pieces. They aren't direct fit, as one side needs to be shaved down to clear the outer lip. I've softened them up sufficiently for my tastes, now I just need to see if they'll survive the daily speedbumps with the holes I drilled in 'em.

They weren't there when I took the factory bump stops off, so if they were stock, the old owner must have already removed them. I would never have added any kind of spacer anyway though, as the new bump stops only ride about 2-3 fingers above the axle as it is.

I replaced mine with energy suspension stops and cut most of the mount off. My 17x11 wheels used to hit the metal mounts when the suspension would drop my when I would jack it up.
