Yes, it can be done as long you are working on a lift and have a good way to support the engine/transmission.

One way to do it is to have a shock tower brace on the car. Use a ratchet strap over the stb around the headers on each side.

I had to swap my oil pan gasket so I lowered my kmember down 5-6 inches to get the oil pan out, and supported the motor this way. I also put a brace under the crank pulley just in case to stabilize it.

I have an old strut tower brace I use also to hold the motors up when lowering the k-member to do any kind of work. Surpisingly enough it works really well to do this kind of thing.

agreed, i installed a tubular turbo k member from bmr last summer, i just chained the engine to the strut tower brace and had no problems at all and that was in my driveway with a floor jack!

i swapped my Kmember in my garage on my back with my car on jack stands. i just supported the bottom of the oil pan with a few blocks of wood and a jack stand. Thought it would be a pain in the ***, it actually was not that bad. Dropped the stock K by myself, and put the new tubular one up and in my self. Just sucked holding the new kmember on my forearm with one arm, and trying to get the bolts started with my free hand, but got the bolts started in less than 5min.
