question about coilover shock

ok i have a 67 camaro with coilovers and i removed them today. after inspecting them i noticed that if i compress them they will stay compressed until i extend them back out. theres a **** that you can adjust to make it more difficult to compress but once compressed they stay compressed. is that normal? i thought a coilover worked on the same principal as a regular shock just with coils.

anyone know about this

Do they not have a gas charge? That's about the only thing I can think of...

i have no clue. i believe there an older style coilover but all i know is they dont self return like a normal shock does.

If they aren't a "gas charged" shock, that's pretty much normal.

It keeps the cavitation in check, so I'd say yes...probably wouldn't be a night and day difference unless you drive the car hard constantly.
