ABS Module/EBCM year compatibility?

ABS Module/EBCM year compatibility? I need to replace my EBCM and after reading numerous threads I have decided to just replace the black plastic or "brains" part of the ABS block by removing the 6 Torx screws. My question is whether the black plastic part can be interchanged for all years...i.e. 2001 in a 1998 etc. I know it has to be a 4-channel abs to another 4 channel, I just am unsure of the compatibility between years for the black plastic piece. My vehicle is a 98 if it makes a difference.
