Testing front ABS sensors?

Default Testing front ABS sensors?

Has anybody done this? I'm getting a C0040 which is the right front speed sensor malfunction but would like to test the sensor before spending money on a new hub. There is a chance the wiring could be the issue or possibly the EBCM.

It looks like testing the sensors requires some advanced electronics skills and an oscilloscope.

I was thinking there is a way to test them with a multimeter since they are small AC generators.

You can't remove the sensors... they are built into the hub.

Correct. The thing is that you need an oscilloscope to see the sine wave shape that the sensor is putting out.

My engine scanner software shows the sine waveform off of my O2 sensors. Maybe there is software for the ABS system that will do the same - but I'd expect it would cost more than new hubs.

Great point. How many miles are on your hubs? If you are over 75K miles, you are getting towards the end of their life, anyway.

Very simply jack up front wheels disconnect both sensors at the hub using a multimeter test the resistance of each sensor they should be close. If they are then on a.c. volts spin the wheels as fast as you can and the volt outputs should be simalar. Just don't jam anything into . The terminals as to spread them. This is the starting point. If the sensor is a hard failure this will show it.

So I couldn't get a voltage reading at all with my multimeter but I did test the resistance which worked.

Ended up my problem is in the wiring. I converted from 4 channel to 3 channel ABS and the harness pinout is slighly different for the front right sensor. I figured GM would use the same harness for traction control cars and non-traction control cars to save money but apparently I was wrong. Should have it fixed up tonight.
