Default chassis mounted torque arm vibration

i got a used umi chassis mounted torque arm from a member on here because i broke my tailshaft on my trans. got it to stop it from happening again. iv been reading that they cause more vibration due to the mounting. iv read some threads where the angle has to be at 0* to reduce vibration. I was wondering if i can get longer bolts and some kind of rubber to sandwich between the cross mount and the frame. would this cause a weak link or affect the performance of the arm???? it was brought up in other threads but not answered. thanks

cliff notes- chassis mounted TA causes vibration
would sandwiching rubber between the mount and chassis reduce the vibration???

Its really trial and error. I did notice quite a bit more vibrations coming through the console after I installed mine, however when you get to the point you are breaking tailshafts, something has got to give.

I put a used Spohn frame mount torque arm on last summer and haven't noticed any extra vibration or noise. I do have a vert if that matters. I did have to adjust the pinion angle to zero degrees to get rid of a whining noise though then all was good.

This torque arm came off my car with the pinion angle just the way it was shipped. I don't remember having any vibration from it or it did and I just got use to it. I didn't use any rubber isolators. I believe it is set with -2 degree pinion angle in it. I'd be leery about spacing the cross member down off the chassis with longer bolt and rubber isolators . The pressure could cause the cross member to twist and move since its not flat against the chassis, breaking the bolts causing your rear end to move and worst cause a ton of damage to the car.

Generally the pinion angle is always going be at a negative angle so when you are accelerating and the pinion of the rear end climbs it will have a pinion angle of zero. If you set the pinion angle at zero initially it will be positive when you are accelerating which will more than likely induce vibrations.

ok. i was wondering what you had it set at. thanks for the info on it form when you had it. i will put it on with out the rubber. if it dosent vibrate, ill be good. if not then i will start adding angle to it to see if it reduces the vibration. i did read it can tear the mount even without the rubber. it didnt happen alot but has occurred. i did see a pic thread of a road car camaro that had the rubber added to it. it didnt say if it reduced vibration but the pic clearly had it. it wont be thick rubber maybe 1/4 inch at most. i judt dont want my teeth to rattle out lol

Yes, they transmit more noise into the cabin. The stock setup has 2 rubber mounts that isolate the TA from the chassis. A TA that has been moved off the trans typically has one or two poly bushings. Increased noise is a trade-off for more direct chassis response. If the driveline angles are correct there should be no vibrations though.

I can hear everything happening in my 12 bolt in the cabin of the car! Price you pay for it to stay together during hard launches though....
