Default Lowering and Fender Height

So when it comes to lowering, my objective is simple... get rid of as much fender gap as possible without going too far by sacraficing clearance for typical driving. But then I don't really know what is too far. Guys say 1" drop is good but 2" causing rubbing issues. Others claim 2" is perfect with plenty of clearance. Only problem is that guys don't often post their before and after measurements so people get mixed results with the same combos. I see many great looking cars on here and wonder what springs they are are running but we all know that is only half the battle because of GM's lack of quality control in the ride height department.

The best way to really judge how far to lower a car, purely from an appearance standpoint, is by studying pictures and knowing the fender height off of level ground. This would help take out some of the guess work and give people a frame of reference before deciding on which springs to go with. So if you all would be so kind, could you please post a side profile picture of your car and include wheel size, spring/shock combo and fender height taken from the center of the wheel?

My old car was dropped an inch which resulted in a 26.5" fender gap. I always wondered if I could get away with less gap and am planning on starting this project over the winter.

What type of clearance do you need? Low hanging y-pipe or header collectors? Also - are you looking strictly to lower it and have clearance or do you want to handle well also? There's many different variations when choosing what springs will accommodate your needs.

Also, not all cars react to springs exactly the same. There's always a chance that another variation will affect your ride height.

We at UMI are always a fan of the Strano Springs, as he spent a lot of seat time finding the correct spring rate for handling and street performance. He or another member may be able to provide you with those measurements.

Coilovers are always a good option too

Most cars are between 27.5-28" at the fender in stock form, depending on year/options. Our springs are 1.25", which usually ends up being a good medium for most cars. At this drop, you don't run into issues with running out of adjustable range for alignment. There are many people on here that run our springs with some very good results. Here are soem examples of how our springs sit:

You should be measuring from the lower control arm mounting points front and rear if you want an accurate ride height measurement.

I'm 25" in the front and 26" in the rear. Eric I believe you asked me about height numbers in another thread and I think I forgot to respond.

BMR springs, Koni SA shocks, HH in rear and Lower perch on front. Tires are 285/35R18 and 315/30R18

No problem. I've bought all my suspension stuff from you ha. More than happy to help. I will get some measurements underneath tomorrow. I'll make sure I am on a completely flat surface.
