Viking install. Which way is correct?
The way on the right. That is a flat coil design on the end so you need the retainer cap. The only way to do that with the factory spring seat are the special springs that Qa1 makes.

Theoretically the method on the left side would work, but not necessarily the right way to do it. The Viking shock setup you have is designed to use the upper spring cup in conjunction with the 2.5" ID coil-over type spring that comes with the package.
There is another method to mount the upper, but it uses a spherical bearing and custom mount for the body instead of the stud and factory rubber mount. The coil spring in this application is still mounted with the supplied cup from Viking similar to the stud type mounting.

I just wanted to make sure. I was prepared to buy different springs to make it right if I had to. Like I said, It just seems like a lot of stress on the stud and the center of the mount. I've considered converting to bearing mount. If I have any issues, I will.

Verdad Gallardo The stud will work fine and has been proven to be durable as well. There are by far more stud upper mount aftermarket shocks out there than the bearing type, but there is no doubt the bearing upper will never have any issues with strength or bind through the suspension travel.
