macpherson strut removal
Will this shave some weight?
I want to cut the strut tower off and go with a set up like a mustang 2. Upper and lower control arm with simple coil over. I can fab everything on my own but the spindle. I will leave the frame rail and my front bars for the cage will go there.
What would be a good spindle that I could get breaks for relatively cheap?

Are you referring to a 3rd gen or 4th gen car? 4th gen cars are already an SLA front suspension, and would see no real benefit of going to a mustang 2 style suspension. The third gen is a true Macpherson strut, but again I'm not sure what gains would be had from converting it over. Just seems like a lot of work for no real gain either direction, honestly. There are plenty of aftermarket options available for both cars.

Honestly, I don't know how much weight you would be able to save with doing that. Fox body strut setups are about as light as they come. Those cars can get crazy light. 4th gens can be pretty light too. My car with an aluminum block ls2, big turbo, th400 and a 9" weighed in at 3000 lbs, with factory glass, t-tops and dash. I As for room to work, you can open up a good amount of room in these engine bays without interfering with the towers. Deleting AC, manual brakes, manual rack, and removing some of the sheetmetal and such in front of the towers opens up a lot of room, as well as removing the wiper cowl. My car before adding some support bars back in. Making room for a BBC
