Default Coil spring direction

Is there a certain way the pig tail end of a rear coil spring should face. On the lower side that is.

the closed side of the spring goes into isolator, which mounts on body. Open side of spring goes on metal axle perch. driver and passenger do not matter

The service manuals (as I remember) tell you to "hook" the pigtail around the front of the axle mount. As the axle moves up and down, the torque arm will "rock" the axle (the front of the torque arm is in a mount that doesn't move, so the axle will move in a slight arc as it goes up and down). The pigtail is the flattest part of the spring so hooking it around the front of the spring location on the axle is the best way to make sure it doesn't slip off.

Did that make sense?
