If you know anything about Hydraulic Steering, the Electric Steering internal is similar. It has torsion bar and also has internal drive flats on the output shaft for manual steering if the electric motor fails. I would not have put this in my car if it did not have this.

God...I don't know what I was thinking...you took your steering box apart and modified the valve etc...NOT the EPS motor...

This makes more sense. Thanks.

To fit this to a rack car like a Fbody I assume you can delete the PS pump, loop the inlet/outlet lines together and somehow splice/mount the EPS motor under the dash.

I may have to give this a shot in my nova, I need to replace the saginaw box and was going to go with a 86 iroc box for the 12:1 ratio. I may just switch to a manual box with the same ratio after reading this and install EPS. I just need to take a look at how to hook up the output shaft.

Very cool Waid!

As far as I know, almost all Japanese Makers work in fail safe - meaning that the EPS work if it looses connection between EPS ECU and the Car's ECU. GM & Saturn stop working!

Did you get your project off the ground? I'm wanting to do this to my 99 trans am. Any little fuel savings I'd love lol would be great to already have this setup when I do my lt1 swap for next year

Hello waid786,

Does the 3 wire hookup steering wheel stiffens when you speed up? Or only the 4 wire hookup does that with the variable assist?

Great info. Might have missed it but can you tell me what rack and pinion you used and how did you mount it?

Default Toyota Yaris 2005

Hi.
Just got me a eps from a 2005 Toyota Yaris.
But when I connect it to power and ignition, it clicks but doesnt give me power steering.
The ecu number is 89650-0D030.
Do I need speedsensor signal?
I used the green wire to ignition.

Regards Patrik

Maybe some people want the ability to adjust it? On electric PS on ATVs there is usually several modes to choose from. What one person likes another may not.

The problem with the adjustable assist is that unless you adjust the **** constantly while driving, it will give fixed assist. So you turn it up enough to give you easy steering around a parking lot, and then get on the highway and attempt a lane change, and end up oversteering. The automatic one uses the torque sensor in the column to give assist based on input. So more input torque while going slow mean more assist, less input torque while going fast means less assist.
