Default what tool to compress bilstein front strut spring?

on a 2002 camaro ss, having the SLP bilstein level 1 suspension.
The front struts have the yellow bilstein shock with the blue colored progressive spring. the maximum clearance between spring coil is maybe 0.75", and only gets smaller. the 2-piece external strut compressor rental from autozone 27036 does not fit. And i am finding shops in my area don't have anything that can compress the spring/strut to disassemble it.

If you use the Auto Zone unit, you need to pry a gap both low and high on the spring to get the "teeth" into. A crowbar of sorts will work. You might even need to hammer them in. It worked for me!

so how does that work if i want to reuse the spring, if i'm prying/hammering the tool in between the coil, scratching & chipping the coil?

You won't scratch the actual spring steel. Repaint springs for a new look!
