Default Aftermarket Strut dust boots?

I'm in the process of rebuilding my front suspension and the dust boots on my front struts are looking a little rough. Has anyone ever used aftermarket ones like I've seen on Rock Auto?

I get what they are used for. What im wondering, are you adding these in addition to the sleeve that is pre installed on most shocks? If so, I don't see the point, unless you are replacing that sleeve because it's missing for whatever reason.

I replaced the ones on my Bilstein's just because they were almost 5 years old (shock only has 2k) on it. They looked like **** lol

I was in the same situation when I rebuilt my front suspension. The aftermarket moog ones that I bought didn't seem to fit right inside the spring. I ended up buying a clean used OEM set off eBay and called it a day.

I used the KYB boots when I changed out the struts, but I would never take the strut apart just to replace the boot only because it is a PITA.

I'm installing new struts, the new struts didn't come with dust boots and my stock ones are looking pretty rough after fighting with the spring compressor trying to get the springs off. I'd like to replace them if possible, just seeing what was out there aftermarket wise.

*shocks, not struts.
What shocks did you buy that didn't have boots?

The front are "Struts" not shocks.

No, the fronts are coilover shocks, not struts. A strut is structural and replaces the upper control arm. Third gens have struts, fourth gens do not.

I have to chuckle every time I see one of these posts. They are coil-overs not struts As said above, struts are a link in the suspension, coil-overs are just a shock where the coil spring is packaged around it.

It's a self contained unit it's a strut.

Do you get off on being wrong or something? Just about everyone of your post are either bad advice or incorrect data.
A Stut is NOT a "self contained unit", a strut is a structural part of the suspension, a coilover is not and therefore requires an upper control arm. Do our cars have upper control arms in the front? Do 3rd gens or 5th gens? We have coilover shocks, 3rd gens and 5th gens have struts.
Which one looks like the 4th gens setup?

See this upper control arm? THAT makes this a coilover suspension. Has NOTHING to do with it being a "self contained" unit.

Notice the 5th gen doesn't have the upper control arm? That is a strut!

The STRUT, being a structural part of the suspension takes the lateral loads that the upper control arm would normally deal with, THAT is what makes it a strut!

That's your defense? Wow. Pick up the Helm manual and see what it says. You know, the actual GM service manual? They're called "absorber, front shock".

Ok, now I think he is just messing with us. It really doesn't matter except we all want to be correct. I work for GM and I was a chassis validation engineer. Trust me when I say they are not struts by the definition of a strut. It is a coil-over shock. So can the reverse logic be used? Are my rear coil-overs considered struts by those people thinking the front coil-over are struts. Are Corvettes that are converted from a transverse leaf to a coil-over setup now considered to have struts? uh no
