question about front sway bar

Default question about front sway bar

when I am at the track I have skinny front tires and when I get to around 120 MPH I get the sensation of the front end start to sway. Would replacing the stock sway bar fix this? I have already replaced the rear sway bar years ago.

how old are your tires? what air pressure are you running front and rear? Are you mixing radials with bias ply rears? What shocks/springs?

Alot of guys remove the front sway bar for drag racing.

Well skinny front tires aren't helping, and I assume the shocks on the car are pretty poor, maybe even stock... or worse yet some "drag" shock that is just meant to be sloppy.

This is maybe the one time ever I will not recommend a bigger sway bar. You don't have the tire to make use of it for handling, and it won't help the launch, and it's the cause of the car wandering around.

My tires are about 10 years old and I keep them at 35 PSI. In the 10 years that I have had them I have only 12 to 14 trips down the strip in them.

Run them at max pressure on the sidewall.

Have they been on the car, all the time, during that 10 years? If not, were they at least stored in a cool, dry place? But IMHO, even if carefully stored, 120 MPH on 10 year old tires, is a risk.

On a different note, have you had your front end alignment checked? That, too, will affect high speed stability.

Bilstein shocks on the front and the car still sways around, interesting.

To the tires themselves, ten years old is extremely old for tires no matter how they been cared for or how little of use and I would fill them to the max with caution. It may be time and safer to swap them out for a new set.
