Default Suspension upgrade??

So I don't really care too much for the Billstein suspension that's currently on my car. I'm not sure if it's just old and worn out but it seems quite rough to me. I'm looking at upgrading soon, Just curious what yall suggest would be a better package to go with?

A lot of people run the Koni shock/Strano spring combo with satisfaction.

BMR/Koni. Strano a good choice too. But 100% on the Koni's.

I'm not sure what springs are on it now. I'm assuming they are still stock. I bought the car a year ago, haven't really looked into see what type springs are on it. I assume also that the car has 186,000 miles on it. The odometer doesn't work, so I'm just guessing it's already rolled over 100,000.

Not sure how much you want to spend, but for a good budget set up the best deal I found was BMR springs with the Koni STR.T's.

What's the ride like on that setup?

Compared to stock with about 80,000 miles it was a big difference. A little stiffer but much more solid. Stock setup felt soft yet harsh at the same time if that makes sense. So even though it's a little stiffer it now it feels much more tied together and secure, while not feeling as harsh and brittle as the stock stuff. I'm definitely happy with it for what i paid

I replaced stock set up with Strano/Koni Str.t's and am very pleased with the result. Bear on mind that the Strano's will lower the car about an inch or so; any lowering spring will be best installed with an adjustable panhard bar to center the rear. Car handles much much better with this combo, but on rough roads, you will feel it, as any performance spring/shock combo will provide. My car is a daily driver too.

Stock springs with Konis on full soft is a pretty nice ride but still really good for street handling. Strano or lowering springs is definitely a stiffer ride, as you need to put the shocks on a more stiff setting too, IMO.

My springs will lower a stock car, but if the car is already lowered on springs (and his is, though probably more in the rear than the front) the relative change will vary. My hunch on his springs is mine would level the car out, little change to the rear, down in the front.

That said, the biggest issue lies with the shocks, not the springs (other than I think you can do better for handling and looks both). But shocks are what make for a sledgehammer. And mind you, I would love to sell springs, BUT only if that will help the OP with a change he wants. So, if you are looking to improve the car but love how it looks and aren't into the better handling beyond what new shocks will get you, then we can just put shocks on if you want.

I'm all for better handling. That was my main intent for buying and building this car, to keep it on the streets and drive it. I'm not at all opposed to leveling it out, though I don't have a whole lot of room left to go down before I end up ripping my exhaust off. This is how it looks as of now....

That exhaust is a problem for lowering more. So I would have to say you need to think about two options. Leaving your current springs in and working on really good shocks like Koni Sports, and some sway bars, or a coil-over setup which will allow you to put the height where you want and select stiffer springs too if you like. But note that most think that a coil-over is a coil-over, and that is NOT any more the case than a cam being a cam or tires being tires.

I can help with parts selection, it's part of what I do around here. But you need to think about what you want, and what you want to spend on improving the car.

Bottom line your shocks suck and those need to addressed first regardless of what else we might do.

I'm all for upgrading shocks first of all. Gotta start somewhere. I'm not one to put a temporary fix on a gushing wound. I want it done right the first time if possible.

Happy to help, not a fan of band-aids either because it means more work for both of us down the road. But down the road needs to be considered too, so if things like height adjustability are in play we want to consider that now.

I have some brand new Strano's and Bilstein HD's that I need to install... Used Sam's stuff in the past... do not hesitate to reach out to him.

I'm pretty happy with the stance it has now. But I'm certainly gonna be replacing the shocks before long. I haven't really driven the car much yet, so I might still need a bit more seat time to get used to the way it rides.

SLP springs were only an option on SLP cars, not an automatic thing.
