Going to put my car on a rack Saturday. Looking to see how much toe in you guys run on a drag/street car. I'm not messing with the caster or camber. The car wanders right now but it was a garage string and tape measure alignment. Thanks.
Positive caster creates a lot of align torque (the force that straightens the steering wheel when you go forward) which improves straight line stability of the car. Due to the geometry of positive caster it also will increase negative camber gain (a good thing) when turning.
Steering response will be improved with toe-out.
Straight line stability will be improved with toe-in.
Correct. I'm not positive but I'm under the belief my car would have positive caster in it already from the factory. As most cars should? I do not believe a Chevette has adjustable caster, or camber. Allso correct on the toe in.
My question is how much toe in do guys typically run? My best finding is 1/32"-1/16". Is that per side, a total measurement, I figured I'd be looking at degrees numbers.
Put my car on an alignment rack today. At static height I was actually really close on my string and tape alignment. But it looks like I still have some bump steer to eliminate before it's perfect. We ended up setting the car at zero with the nose about 2" high. At static height I'm slightly toed in. Now that my car is on skinnies I'll buy new tie rod heim adapters. I was limited by the dish of the wheel before on how low it could be dropped. I'll be able to dial out the bump steer now.
