Default Front Brake Kits Only? 02 WS6

Probably a newbie question but why do all the brake kits I see only come for the front? The C5/C6 brake kits for fbodies for example?

Because the stock rear brake setup is already arguably overpowered. If you put an aggressive pad on the stock rear brakes you can lock up an R-compound tire from high speed. If you were to put stronger brakes on the rear you would only be locking them up at even higher speeds, being even more dangerous. This isn't a matter of the brakes being "too good" or over engineered, its the fact that these are solid rear axle cars with 55/45 weight distribution, all the weight transfers to the front making the rear even lighter and even easier to lock the brakes up back there. You see bigger brakes on cars that have IRS and closer to 50/50 weight balance, and even bigger rear brakes on mid engine cars that have more rear weight bias.

... but kits DO exist for those of us who care more about looking cool than stopping efficiently! I don't own a 4th gen anymore, but when I did, I discovered a site called big brake upgrade dot com or something of the like. They sell a backing plate to mount a 4 piston Brembo caliper, and they helped me with a bolt on solution for my new Moser 12 bolt for my '57. Easy to work with, and very knowledgeable. Not the safest solution for an F-body, but if you really want to do it, they offer it.

Strange Master and Strange 4 piston calipers all the way around on a 96 camaro. Brakes work fantastic. Never have had any problems with the rear locking up getting her slowed down at 150+mph. You can lock up all 4 if you push hard enough. Otherwise they work normally. Seems like problems arise when trying to use some stock components with the after market stuff. And I mean brake lines and everything. Stock lines going to the rear are too big for strange. Everything has to be 3/16ths. Use braided lines to connect to calipers. (they won't ever swell) The Strange master is internally proportioned so no need to add an external proportioning valve. We replaced every inch of the brake setup. Paid off because they work extremely well. Have read many articles of people having problems and it seems like they all have tried to use after market mixed with stock.

Good info thanks. Did you only upgrade calipers or did that also allow you to get larger rotors?
