Energy Suspension here and no complaints but I purchased the MWC solid for the racer.

I have had Spohn solids and UMI solids, I now have Hooker clam shells with their urethane inserts. With all three setups I had a Prothane trans mount. The Spohn's are really nice but they raise the engine quite a bit, so I went back to stock pedestals with UMI solids. I talked to two guys at two separate times with a ton of LS/drag racing experience and they both said that solid mounts could warp the block. I decided to install the Hooker setup while the engine was out for the new HC.

I also used the Hooker clamshells with my Prothanes so that I could have them ready to go prior to the old ones coming off. I have the old stockers if anyone is interested in doing the same.

Yeah its possible with an aluminum block but less likely to iron. Just as an impact to the car could rip the solid mounts from the block taking part of the engine block with it and that's regardless of aluminum or iron.

i asked spohn if their non solid pedestal mounts raise the engine.....answer was no.....so i checked myself with poly in the shells against stock pedestals and spohn.....no difference

engine only seems raised due to worn out rubber

Unfortunately this is not true, I have pictures and measurements to prove it. I haven't posted pictures on here in a while but if you'd like me to I can. A section of my driver side y pipe went from just barely touching the floorboard to having more than 1/4" clearance. I also measured from my driver side valve cover to the cowl and gained about 3/4". I'm not bashing the Spohn's, I loved them and they gave quite a bit more clearance when working underneath especially when doing headers but there is no doubt they raise the engine. I believe it's mainly due to them being straight whereas any other mount that utilizes the stock pedestal has an angle when installed in the car. Even when measured on the bench the Spohn's are taller. This has been discussed before and I wanted to make a thread when I swapped out the Spohn's a few years ago but never got around to it.

the worn out rubber was worth at least 1/4 inch !

No problem, I'll try to get them posted some time this week.

I got my Spohn's in 2008 I believe, not sure if they changed anything since then. I went from the Spohn's to the stock pedestals and UMI solids when I made the measurements so they technically should be the same height.

Spohn's.

Stock pedestals with UMI solids.

Spohn's.

UMI's.

Comparison of the height difference on a bench.I didn't take a picture of the other mounts but I believe the difference was even more.

Not exactly the most scientific test but the pictures make it pretty clear. I never noticed how much it raised the engine until I worked on a stock Trans Am and I could immediately tell the engine was further from the cowl.

Again; not bashing Spohn at all, I have quite a few of their parts on my car, in fact the pictures of the mounts installed on their site are of my car. I'm just not sure why they insist on telling people they don't raise the engine when they clearly do. I don't run either of these mounts now, I should measure to see if the Hooker's changed anything.

oh....you have the spohn solids....i have the spohns that use the stock clamshells.....the pic shows a little....looks to me to be about 1/8 inch comparing the pedastals together.....but more installed......strange

my kooks headers and Y fit great with my setup........the TSP headers and Y fit like crap with negative clearance

Ooooh hahaha, well that makes sense then. My exhaust was built before I got the Spohn's so it wasn't always that close to the floorboard. Like I mentioned before I believe the other side mount had even more of a difference in height which is why it's so noticeable in the car. TSP headers are nice for the money but there really is no comparison to the more expensive headers. I installed a set of 1-7/8 ARH's and the quality is top notch. You definitely get what you pay for.

OP; sorry if this somewhat hijacked your thread. Hopefully it can help you decide which set of mounts to get.
