Default Clunking from front shock

So I have a clunking coming from the passenger side shock. I have narrowed it down to the upper side/mount area. I replace the shocks 2 years ago, but the clunking started this tear. When I open the hood and push the car up and down by where I can hear something clunking....

My only guess is that the upper nut that holds the shock to the spring came loose. Any other guesses?

I assume i dont have to get an alignment if i dont mess with the lower a arm or tie rod.

Either the upper nut came loose, or the upper mount rusted out.

the mount is 2 years old and car is garaged/not driven in the rain so I'm going to guess 75% nut came loose. What a pain......any idea if I'll need an alignment again?
