I dont see were it would hurt anything, it has been done many times. You can also replace it with a DSL

I havn't run one in along time. Everything is just fine, you can literaly bend that brace in a circle with your hands.

Surely it doesn't hang lower than your headers....

actually pulling into the bays at work the factory piece is just as low as the driver side header. the passenger side is kinda low but they tuck really good

Try the lakewood loop - it tucks up more than the stock tunnel brace does and goes under the y-pipe instead of over like several other models. $40 bucks and a worthy piece of mind.

This would be my suggestion as well. You won't lose any ground clearance with the Lakewood loop and it bolts right up where the tunnel brace came off. It generally works well with duals and custom Y's also.

I got mine from Jegs, I don't believe any sponsers carry it to my knowledge. If memory serves, the p/n was 18022. Just make sure you get the 82-02 Firebird/Camaro specific loop, as they sell a slightly cheaper universal one that likely will not fit.

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...29&prmenbr=361

p/n 620-18022

Here's a pic of mine. Its a bit hard to see, but if you look up above the X-pipe you can spot it. Mine's painted red, but it'll come with a zinc-plated finish.

Another vote for the lakewood DSL. I ran with no tunnel brace for a while (when I did my true duals), no problems whatsoever.
