Default Torque arm owned

Look what Mr. Mickey Thompson DR did to me at 22 ponds of tire pressure and a 6000 rpm launch. Needless to say I need to work on my stock suspension some. What are you wheel standers out there running for suspension parts?

wow...i can almost see what you did to it...lol. how about some slightly larger pics? i'm putting in a BMR Extreme T/A. i got that on a good deal new, and it's a proven piece. an alternative is the equally as strong, if not more so, Wolfe Racecraft T/A's. expect to spend $550-$650. that should do you pretty well for a good long time. plus, take the stress off the trans too.

later,
Dave

Looks like the bolts loosened up on the Rear. Common problem with the Moser 12 bolts. Whatever you replace it with, make sure to check those bolts often.

How does the brand or type of rear-end cause the bolts to loosen up?

A Moser 12-bolt rear uses 4 short bolts (into threaded holes) instead of the stock configuration of 2 through bolts. Normal driving will back these bolts out as the rear vibrates and does its thing, unless you keep them tight and loc-tite the crap out of them. Very common problem with them, but is easily fixed with more frequent torque checks of those bolts.

FWIW, a Strange 12-bolt uses the 2 through bolt configuration, and I think the Moser 9" does too if I'm not mistaken.

So this destruction is a result of the 4 short Moser bolts backing out?

I just slapped on those same MT DR's on Monday, and thinking of going to the track with a stock drive shaft and stock torque arm (M6, Spec 3, 413 rwhp)

Bad idea?

edit: I just noticed that the MT's were at 22 psi, and it still hooked that hard? Good God

Yep these 325/50/15's with stock suspension at 22 ponds of tire pressure.. It wasn't because of loose bolts either, I had just checked them. It is because of the these sticky tires and a 6000 rpm dump. I think traction was what caused the destruction of my torque arm

Yup, these tires are the ****.

Perhaps I can buy some time since mine are only 255-50-16's...

I'm sure loose bolts could cause a serious issue but I wouldn't think you could blame this on the moser design. Just me .02 cents though.

this also happened to my friend.... he was pretty much stock.... just cold air, exhaust, and 315/35/17's not DR's.... he had just gotten his car out of the dealer (they fixed the rear end; warranty) I'm guessing that they could of left the bolts loose...??? not too sure... stock suspension, tranny, clutch,.. when it broke he downshifted from 4th to 2nd.....

I pulled 1.56 60's on the stock torque arm sidestepping the clutch at 6600. The pictures of that arm look exactly like every other broken torque arm i've seen come off a 12-bolt.

FWIW, BMR rewrote their warranty clause on their torque arms to specifically void the warranty if used with a Moser 12-bolt or any other non-stock style (2 through-bolt) mounting design.
