Making a STB?
Making a STB? My brother has a welding shop and says he could save me the 80-100$ and just make a STB for me. Im sure he could but is it a bad idea? Do they need to have a certain amount of flex in them? In other words, are they engineered/designed or will any strong piece of metal from one tower to the other do the job?

it'll do the job fine.
STB don't do much on the 4th gens LS1s... great esthetic improvement and goo for leaning over when working in the engine bay.
Won't help nor hinder handling, though.

what eugenio said, i had one and sold it. It doesnt do much but it is nice to look at and it does offer a good place to lean your hands on.. As for your brother making one, im sure he could do it no problem. All it is, is a piece of tube bent in 2 places welded to two mounting plates, thats it. Only thing i would say is how tall to make it, you want it tall enough to clear the motor but short enough not to hit the hood. If he is a welder and can fabricate than let him build it and save some money for other mods.
