Default Brake Help Needed

I noticed my brakes where making all this squeaking noise about three weaks ago.First thought that came to my mind was to change the brake pads.I take off the wheel and inspect the pads.They where all worn down bad.Went to napa and got me some pads for front and the rear and installed them.Problem was solved for about 2 weeks,then the squeaking began again.Could I've done something wrong or could it be something else.Need help.thanks

I've never had good luck with after market (pep boys, Autozone) brands. I found out a long time ago that its best to turn the rotors at the same time. I've bought an extra set of rotors to minimize down time. I get the rotors turned when time & money permit.
I use factory pads. I would get too much brake fade or squeal with after market pads.

correct me if i am wrong but i believe they will squeak once you change them because you have to wear them in a little

I never have squeaking with factory pads. I'm not sure about High Performance type pads, they may need a break in.

Find a good straight road with no traffic and do a few 45-0 runs, really stomp on them. Gets rid of debris and glaze.

The "Handling & Braking" section is a better place for this topic:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/suspension-brakes-16/

Anyway, on topic...
* When changing pads, inspect the rotors.
* The rotor may need to be turned. If they are the original rotors, replace them with a good factory replacement (ex: Brembo OEM Blanks available at TireRack)
* Get a deceant set of pads (This varies wildly, I -- and many others -- use Hawk HPS pads available at TireRack)
* The squeek can come from many places.
---The pads should have come with anti-squeel shims and/or grease. The shims may have already been attached to the back of the pads. If they didnt come with anti-squeel grease, you can get some from the auto parts store and apply it to the back of the pads
---Some pads inherently squeek. Carbon-Metallic pads will squeek slightly, Race pads will definatly squeek.
* When doing the brakes:
---Inspect the caliper pistons for wear (rust/gouging/pittng)
---Inspect the rubber caliper piston boots for tears or other damage
---Inspect the rubber caliper sliding pin boots for tears or other damage
---Make sure the caliper sliding pins move freely
* Follow the pad and rotor manufacturers instructions for the proper break-in process.

BTW, everything that I have said could have been found in a quick search in the "Handling & Braking" section.

One thing is for sure about this site. You will get a lot of "search for it" when you post if it is something as simple as this to find. Just thought I would let you know to save you the trouble of being harassed for not using the search button.

Do you happen to know the GM part # for their pads?

I'm also having trouble with squeaking with aftermarket pads

Default Hey bearcatpride;

Try www.GMPartsDirect.com

Think that will help you with the part numbers.

Good luck.

could be just dust behind the pad, did you put some of the anti-squeak stuff on the back of the pad? Needed if in dusty conditions.
