Default Traction control

How do I turn this off in my 97 Formula? What are the pros and cons of turning it off?

I have also read of a TCS delete cable, and getting the traction control deleted out of the PCM because it will throw an ABS INOP code. I would like to keep cruise control and ABS.

I just removed the TCS box in my 95. Just ordered a new throttle cable and cruse cable and put them in. Still have ABS. I followed the write-up on this link:

http://www.pharmacy.arizona.edu/staf.../NoABSTCS.html

You're car might be a little different with the 96-97 TCS. To turn it off, just press the TCS button. The SLP reverses the module, so when you turn the car on, the TCS is off. When you hit the TCS button, it'll turn it on. I'd get that if you want to retain TCS. I pulled mine off cause I didn't like looking at that box on the valve cover.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, I don't have a button. Is there any other way to bypass it?

On that site it says if you don't have a button you just have ABS...

But my dash lights say TCS OFF etc....

So you don't have a TCS button but have a TCS OFF light on?

Really? That's kinda weird, so why would I have a TCS OFF light *not illuminating while driving, just at start up* if I'm not equipped with it?

It's cheaper for GM to make 1 less gauge cluster. As mentioned above, no button = no TCS.

lol. thats not a problem. thats a good thing. one less thing you need to get rid of.

But yes, just like the same reason that there is a connector for the TCS button behind the dash. They use the same harnnes in all of the vehicles, just depends on what all plugs into it.

This is good. The last person that I tried to convince that he didn't have TCS wouldn't belive me.

Not trying to be a dolt but....I thought I had TCS, but since I read this thread and cant find a button, I dont think I have it. Then again, I dont know where said button would be. Where is the button typically located? I have a 1999 Trans Am.
Thanks-

I thought it would be right on the center console.

Ok then, I guess I dont have it. I wasnt sure if it was tucked away someplace not too obvious. Going to the track for the first time soon and dont want to screw myself over.

Thanks for the help.
