Default Changing pads-open bleeder screw?

I've heard that before you compress the pads, you should open the bleeder screw to prevent dirt going back into the ABS valves. If you keep the brake fluid clean by changing it often, is this really necessary? I bleed them once a year, all four wheels.

Never heard of that one before.

What I do is take the cap off the master cylinder then compress the piston. Never had any problems to date.

Regardless of the fact that you bleed the brakes once a year, it is a wise preventative measure to open the bleeder to avoid any damage to the ABS from old brake fluid.

I opened my bleeders once, to do a pad change, never again. Too much hastle. I just compress the piston(s) back in with the MC cap off and havent had any problems.

I dont have ABS and I've upgraded to the 98+ dual pistons.
